ACCREDITATION

In 1992, the Society introduced a Post-graduate program of accreditation. This provides an opportunity for dentists who are interested in implantology an opportunity to enhance their knowledge base, and to receive recognition of their having attained a certain level of education in the field.

Three levels of courses are run on a regular basis.

Level I is a course on the basic sciences, concepts and anatomy relevant to Dental Implantology.

Level II covers case selection, diagnostics, medical implications, etc.

Level III completes the training, with detailed anatomy, implant placement procedures, provisionalisation, restoration and management of complications.

Before progressing to a higher level, the candidate has to pass a written examination, except for Level I . Once the candidate has successfully completed Level III, accreditation is awarded.

When members of the public seek information about Society members who might be able to offer them treatment with implants, they are informed as to the accreditation status of the members.
